When it comes to angling much is made about rods, reels, line and lures. The same can be said about waders, protective clothing and headgear. But one of the most over-looked, but essential, pieces of equipment is the humble fishing bag. What’s in the bag can make or break a trip to the river, stream or stillwater.
Bags come in many configurations and shapes. But for me the most important criteria the bag whether, hard cased or soft sided, must be big enough to hold all – and I mean ALL – the gear you determined necessary on the trip. Having equipment randomly rattling around the rear of your fishing rig or the deck of your boat is a formula for failure. Many bags also come with straps to securely hold a selection of rod tubes and come with water-proof wader storage areas. Unfortunately what appears to have fallen out of favor with fishing bag manufacturers recently is ventilated side pockets designed to hold wet wading boots. Luckily the ski equipment industry still understands that aspect of gear bags with attached side compartments for boots and produce a good range of them.
