When you’re having trouble catching fish, start by trying to determine where in the water column they are. This means working from bottom to top in likely spots on the water. Once you’ve found the depth at which fish are active, experiment with size and speed of presentation. Too many anglers get in the habit of seeking fish by dragging their favourite spoon or crankbait all around a lake. Unfortunately they’re fishing continuously at the same depth. Most often they’re better off to work different depths than different locations.
