Muskies are absolute brutes, even when compared to the extra-large pike many western Canadians are familiar with. They will bust up your tackle in a heartbeat, so it’s important to not head out under-gunned. Medium-heavy or heavy 6 ½- to 7 ½-foot rods, large bait-casting reels, 40-lb. test or heavier main lines, and 80-lb. leaders are the norm. And don’t forget to bring the largest net you can find, just in case your musky dream comes true!
