A few other items should be in the vest of any pike fisherman. Polarized glasses are a must for spring anglers, as they allow you to see sunning fish and cast to them with a spot and stalk approach. Long-nosed pliers are valuable for assisting in removing hooks, as are jaw spreaders. You’ll find that barbs aren’t required to keep pike on the line, while they do pose a problem in extracting your fly. As such, it’s beneficial to pinch the barb on pike flies.
You’ll need to fish from a boat to target pike in summer or late fall.
